HERE IS A PICTURE OF ME SEVERA YEARS OLD DURING A VISIT TO THE VETERANS HOSPITAL IN WESTWARD, CALIFORNIA. I KNOW OF WHAT I SPEAK. AS AN ACTIVIST AND ADVOCATE FOR ABOT 30 YEARS, THERE ARE VERY FEW AGENCIES, DEPARTMENTS, ENTITIES, PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICTS, HOSPITALS, ETC. I HAVE NOT BEEN WELL ACQUAINTED WITH REGARDING THEIR SHORTCOMINGS AND CHALLENGES. That is why those who push the status quo have tormented and harassed me for years.
I hate to tell you but I have advocated for improvement at VA Hospitals for at least two decades. It is untrue that this is a new issue. I even used information from the VA Hospital in Westwood, California in a published novel I wrote called UNFINISHED BUSINESS. This is recycled news so please do not act as if a new report just found this out. Two decades ago, ABC News even ran a special report with videos showing veterans being starved because they could not feed themselves and veterans being left in pain. It is not just about throwing money at the problem. I often visit Veterans Hospitals because of the friendships I have developed and I talk to patients and families. There was a time when the veterans who has lost limbs had second rate artificial limbs as opposed to state-of-the-art limbs. You would have thought that the veterans would be the first recipients of any innovative limbs since they put their lives on the line for us. The opposite was true. So do me a favor, don’t get dramatic on me about this issue. Do not act like this is a revelation. Some veterans have gotten preferential treatment because local communities have stood up and demanded certain veterans get top notch treatment.
